A Message from the PhD Program Director

Dear Prospective Doctoral Student,

Thank you for your interest in the LSU PhD in Social Work program.  Our PhD students receive state-of-the-art training in the skills required to provide the profession with the knowledge needed for ethical and effective practice in the 21st century. Our faculty mentors are currently conducting research that addresses many of the pressing social issues of our time.

Once admitted to the program, our doctoral students develop close working relationships with faculty members within the School and the larger LSU community.  We also provide interested students with opportunities for developing collaborative partnerships with governmental and non-profit agencies and organizations throughout the state.

The greater Mississippi Delta area is tremendously challenged with centuries-old social problems related to oppression and poverty. These problems have recently been compounded by the social transformations brought on by natural and other disasters affecting the region since 2005. These challenges also provide unique opportunities, however, for committed scholars to contribute their knowledge, skills, and expertise.

If these opportunities and challenges sound interesting to you, we would very much like to hear from you.  Please peruse the site and call or email us to find out more about our program.
