My trajectory, spanning over nearly half-a-century, embodies a quest for human freedom and social justice. During the last 32 year at LSU, as a professor (1981--) and Dean (1981-86), I have been instrumental in leading the profession toward a self-reflective discipline with greater emphasis on knowledge based practice and research.
The search for Unification (of social work) has been challenging but rewarding. My dialogical-dialectical pedagogy is an attempt to achieving social transformations beyond geo-conceptual barriers and boundaries. This is a universally empowering approach; it seeks to annihilate the forces of oppression that breed intolerance, injustice and other existential indignities. Ideally, I see social work as an end of itself. As a post-empiricist, I believe, this is positivism at its loftier best. The transformation and empowerment of the human condition is crucial to legitimize Social Work as a vehicle of progressive social change.

Dr. Licata (center) received the Brij Mohan Distinguished Professor Award for 2008 from President Emeritus William Jenkins (far right). The award was endowed in 1997 by Ms Betti Giles in honor of Dr Brij Mohan. It's annually awared to an LSU professor whose scholarly work has promoted peace and social justice.

Carmen D. Weisner, executive director of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-LA), interviewed Brij Mohan on April 9, 2008 after the ceremony where he received that organization's prestigious President’s Award for lifetime achievement. Read the press release.
