Sunday, October 21 Scheduling begins for Spring 2008 & Summer 2008

Continuing Student Registration Procedures for Spring & Summer 2008

1) Review the MSW Schedule and view the Schedule Booklet from the Registrar's Homepage with important deadlines and payment procedures.

2) Print out the Advisement Form and complete the form. Click for an advisement form. You may type directly on this form. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader if you need it. Plan a tentative schedule using the schedule below and your program of study in your student handbook. Remember that this schedule is tentative and is not guaranteed by the School of Social Work.

3) Turn in your completed advising form to Denise Chiasson-Breaux or Becky Cavalier by Thursday, October 18th. Please make a copy for your records.

4) Register when the system is available. Using your PAWS account. Classes are "first come, fist serve". All students on campus have frustrations with the registration system and classes do fill up quickly.

5) PAY YOUR FEES ON TIME!!! Once you receive notification that your fee bill is online, pay your fees or make arrangements for payment deferment. Make sure to submit your remittance stub. If you get one with a $0 balance, read the registration booklet; it will tell you what to do. The Bursar’s Office number is 578-3357. For those of you with student loans, do not assume that your lender will take care of getting your loan check here on time. Stay on top of this. If you do not pay your fees by the deadline date, your schedule will be purged.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUEStIONS

The registration system won’t let me into the system; it gives me a message saying I need to see an advisor or that there is a hold placed on my registration. What do I do?
If you receive a message that you need to see an advisor, you may not have turned in your advising form and your flag was not lifted. Once your advising form is turned in, we will lift your flag and you will be allowed to register. If the message your receive states there is a hold placed on your registration, the GRADUATE SCHOOL will not let you register (not the School of SW). Contact the Graduate School at 578-1641.

I would like to do an independent reading…what do I do?
First, meet with a faculty member with an idea of what you would like to study. Second, if the faculty member agrees to supervise your work, a contract needs to be completed and signed by you and the faculty member. Third, turn in this contract along with your advisement form or as soon as the contract is signed. The School of Social Work will add you to a section once a contract is received.

APPEALS FOR FULL SECTIONS

If the section you would like is full and all other sections are full, you may submit an appeal to Denise Chiasson-Breaux by November 3rd. The appeal must include:

1) Your current schedule. All of your courses must be scheduled even though they may not be the desired times.

2) The course(s) you would like to add or change.

3) Your reason for wanting to enroll in this section or course.

4) Student Number and Contact information: cell phone, home phone and email.

Effective for Fall 2004, we will not put students in full sections when other sections of that course are NOT full or other times are available. Preference for instructor, commuting and work obligations are not educationally based reasons for allowing students to move sections. Although we understand the demands of other family and life obligations, we simply cannot overload our sections to accommodate everyone. You must register for all the courses that you are required to take, even though they may not be at the time slot you desire. We will entertain appeals for internship conflicts and other educationally based reasons.
