Renewing our Spirit of Service and Controlling Stress through Yoga
The heart and soul of social work is empathy and compassion—the ability and the willingness to “meet our clients where they are”—despite the potential psychological and emotional rigors of these journeys. Whether the client is an individual, a group, or a community, social workers are trained to assess client needs and can easily neglect their own. Without techniques to counter the stress of serving distressed populations, social workers are at risk for compassion fatigue. Mind/Body techniques offer simple and effective practices that relieve stress, increase energy, and improve focus and mental clarity. Participants will learn several yogic breathing and meditation techniques and will be shown several gentle body movement exercises, all of which can easily be used on a daily basis in the quest for wellness.
