Post Graduate Certificate Program in Adoption Competency

From October 2007 until June 2008, 39 social workers employed by the Louisiana Office of Community Service and Catholic Charities of Baton Rouge participated in the 10 month program.  The LSU School of Social Work in conjunction with The National Resource Center for Family-Centered Practice and Permanency Planning at the Hunter College School of Social Work: A Service of The Children's Bureau/DHHS/ACF  provided the series under the direction of the center’s executive director Gerald Mallon, DSW.   Participants met once a month for 10 day and a half meetings and covered topics ranging from search and reunion issues to impact of abuse and neglect on child development.  Upon completion of the program, participants were issued a post graduate certification in Adoption Competency and 95 general contact hours of continuing education credit.
